Brissaud was one of four regular contributors for this exclusive periodical, and his pochoir provide charming fashion narratives of the period. These delightful fashion studies from Gazette du Bon Ton have been avidly collected since they were first published for Gazette de Bon Ton by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925. Gazette du Bon ton was distributed by Condé Nast who later published Vogue magazine.
Pochoir, the French word for stencil, was adopted worldwide after this method was perfected by skilful artists in France. Pochoir was a labour-intensive process, with separate stencils cut for each application of watercolour.
