The Anemoi wind gods blew from different directions and were associated with different seasons and weather conditions. The four chief Anemoi were Boreas (Aquilo in Latin) from the north, bringer of cold winter air, Zephyrus (Favonius in latin) from the west, the bringer of light spring and early summer breezes, Notos (Auster in Latin) from the south, the bringer of storms in late summer and autumn, and Eurus (Subsolanus), from the east (sometimes south-east) who was not governed by seasons.
