Rare antique print of Australian Channel-billed Cuckoo (the largest bird in the Cuckoo family), mis-named Psittaceous Hornbill and Anomolous Hornbill because of similarity to Hornbills with its large curved beak. It was given its correct Latin name, Scythrops novaehollandiae, by English ornithologist John Latham in 1790.

Original copperplate engraving by Peter Mazell after Ann Latham (daughter of John Latham) for “Voyage of Governor Phillip to Botany Bay; with an Account of the Establishment of the Colonies of Port Jackson & Norfolk Island” printed in London circa 1789 by John Stockdale.

This page is in fine condition considering its age. The engraving has fine later hand-colour.

Page size: 295mm x 220mm (11.5/8 x 8.7/8 inches). To plate mark: 260 x 190 (10.1/4 x 7.1/2 inches).
