$275.00

Lady and dog At Palm Beach, antique print. Tailleur, de Worth. Tailoring designed by Charles Worth.

This lovely pochoir will be antique next year! Original 1921 fashion pochoir by George Barbier (1882-1932) for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style). Between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I), the finest fashion illustrators introduced the latest fashions by prominent French designers. Barbier was one of the four regular contributors for this exclusive periodical, and his fashion illustrations are some of the most sought after today. Each of his pochoir portrays a charming fashion narrative to convey the mood of each style beautifully. In this case, a demure young lady with her faithful dog. She is wearing a fashionable and comfortable dress, and is in an idyllic situation on a sunny beach beside a palm tree.

The portrayal of fashion by the pochoir method was perfected by skilful artists in France, and this French word for stencil has been adopted worldwide since that time. Pochoir was a labour-intensive process, with a separate stencil cut for each application of colour.
