Robes et Manteaux, de Doucet. (Dresses & Coats designed by Jacques Doucet (1853-1929).

Rare original double-size fashion pochoir for Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style), published in Paris c1924-1925. With striking colour this is a superb example of 1920s fashions.

Gazette de Bon Ton was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I), and distributed by Condé Nast. The portrayal of fashion by the pochoir method was perfected by skilful artists in France, and this French word for stencil has been adopted worldwide since that time. Pochoir was a labour-intensive process, with separate stencils cut for the hand-application of different layers of watercolour.
